# G2 Alternatives for Software Vendors

By [Toolradar Editorial Team](https://toolradar.com/editorial-policy) Updated 5 November 2026 12 min read

Most vendors can build review evidence outside G2 with three routes: a directory that collects user-written reviews, such as Crozdesk, SourceForge or PeerSpot; a claimed Toolradar profile that you can edit and answer reviews on; and Product Hunt only when a launch date is set. Capterra, GetApp and Software Advice are G2's own brands, so they are not separate alternatives.

Toolradar runs this directory and sells placements, including sponsored boxes, paid placements in buyer guides and a "Featured" premium listing tier. Toolradar is part of Dupple, which sells newsletter sponsorships. Read [how we make money](https://toolradar.com/how-we-make-money) and our [editorial policy](https://toolradar.com/editorial-policy) before you weigh any option on this page.

## Eight options and how a vendor gets in

Eight options on this page can give a vendor review evidence or a profile outside G2. Each row links the provider's own page for how a vendor gets in. TrustRadius and Gartner Peer Insights are not in the table; see the limits section.

Table: eight options for review evidence and profiles outside G2, read 5 November 2026.

| Option | Review evidence | How a vendor gets in | Who it fits | Skip it when |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Toolradar | Reviews can carry a Verified, Email confirmed or Vendor-affiliated badge, and the claimed owner answers them from the dashboard. | [Create a listing](https://toolradar.com/company/submit), then claim it with a work email on the product's domain or by DNS. | Vendors who want a profile they can edit and answer reviews on, beside comparison pages. | You need a ranking or AI-answer guarantee: a listing does not guarantee either. |
| PeerSpot | Reviews must come from real users who used the product in the past 12 months. | Use Get Listed in the menu of [PeerSpot's vendor directory](https://www.peerspot.com/vendors); it opens PeerSpot's [contact page](https://company.peerspot.com/about-us/contact). | Vendors that want practitioner reviews and will collect them through AI-assisted submissions, managed interviews or live events. | You want to apply without talking to PeerSpot: Get Listed and Add a Product both lead to a contact page. |
| Crozdesk | Its home page carries "Recent Community Reviews" and "Write A Software Review". | Use the Apply to list your software button on [Crozdesk](https://crozdesk.com/); the Claim a Listing link sits in the footer. | Vendors who want user-written reviews on a directory profile. | You do not want an award nomination: Crozdesk says all listed software products get automatically nominated for its annual Software Awards series. |
| SourceForge | Says "Your user reviews can be showcased on your software listing". | Use Add a Product on [SourceForge's vendor page](https://sourceforge.net/software/vendors/), which links to the [new product form](https://sourceforge.net/software/vendors/new). | Products that can collect enough positive user reviews for the Leader or Top Performer recognition. | You want a position not tied to paid plans: SourceForge says your exact position is determined by the price of your plan. |
| Slashdot | Says "Read independent customer reviews and expert opinions". | Use the Add Your Software link on the [directory page](https://slashdot.org/software/); it passes to SourceForge's product form at /software/vendors/new. | Vendors who want their product beside expert reviews and comparisons. | You already applied through SourceForge: SourceForge's footer names Slashdot Media, and Slashdot Media's brands page lists both sites. |
| SaaSHub | Says it helps find "alternatives and reviews of the products you already use". | [Submit and verify on SaaSHub](https://www.saashub.com/submit), then post the product to relevant directories from the Submit tab. | Makers who want one verified profile they can post to other directories from SaaSHub's Submit tab. | You cannot verify the product yet: SaaSHub makes submit and verify the first step, before the Submit tab. |
| AlternativeTo | Says "comments and reviews need to be approved by admins before they are visible on our website". | [Suggest new application](https://alternativeto.net/faq/#add-a-new-application) after verifying your email. | Vendors who get developer access to their own app page, so edits go live straight away. | You need edits live without that access: without it, edits go through approval. |
| Product Hunt | Comments and votes on a launch; the launch guide says you cannot directly solicit upvotes. | Log in, click Submit in the top right, then New Product, as [Product Hunt's launch guide](https://www.producthunt.com/launch) describes; the guide encourages makers to hunt their own products. | Products with a set launch day and a team that can answer comments that day. | You cannot staff launch day: the guide says products compete daily on the homepage leaderboard for Product of the Day. |

What each option is, in short:

- **Toolradar:** a software directory with a profile for each product, plus comparison and alternatives pages.
- **PeerSpot:** a B2B software review platform with a vendor directory and a Get Listed route.
- **Crozdesk:** a software directory with buyer guides, where users write reviews and vendors apply to list.
- **SourceForge:** a software directory that includes an Open Source Directory for projects.
- **Slashdot:** a site with expert reviews and comparisons, whose listing route runs through SourceForge.
- **SaaSHub:** a software marketplace that calls itself independent and helps people find alternatives and reviews of products.
- **AlternativeTo:** a directory of alternatives to applications, where users suggest apps.
- **Product Hunt:** a launch platform where makers share a product and the community comments and votes.

## Where G2 and its brands fit

G2 says it acquired Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp from Gartner in early 2026. Those three brands therefore belong to the same company as G2, and a vendor planning reach should count them as one owner, not as three independent alternatives. G2's acquisition statement does not say whether profiles or reviews carry over between the sites, so a vendor should not assume that a review on one reaches the others.

This is why the table leaves them out: an independent alternative has to come from a different owner.

## Which one first, by goal

- **Reviews a buyer can read:** start with Crozdesk or SourceForge, since both give user reviews a place on the listing. Then add a Toolradar profile, where a claimed owner can answer reviews from the dashboard. For B2B software, add PeerSpot, whose guidelines require reviewers to have used the product in the past 12 months. Each platform's own review rules decide what counts, as the last section explains.
- **A launch spike:** start with Product Hunt on a date you set, then keep a standing profile live, such as Toolradar or Crozdesk, so the people who arrive have a page that stays up after the launch day.
- **Open-source reach:** start with SourceForge's [create page](https://sourceforge.net/create/), which says "Your project is added to our Open Source Directory where potential users can browse and search for software."
- **Comparison-page presence:** start with Toolradar, PeerSpot and Slashdot, which each publish comparison pages. On Toolradar, a comparison page opens for a pair recorded as alternatives or covered by an expert comparison. Only expert comparisons are open to Google. A pair that is recorded as alternatives but has no expert comparison is marked noindex for every engine unless both tools clear the editorial quality bar with dated data on the pair, or the pair earns measured traffic, and even then Google is told noindex.
- **AI-assistant citations:** no route on this page guarantees an AI answer. Toolradar's vendor page says a listing "does not guarantee search rankings or inclusion in AI answers", so start with the profile whose facts you control, and keep the same facts on your own site.

## The first 30 days, in order

1. Days 1 to 3: write the pre-flight checklist below in one file. Outcome: one set of facts that every profile repeats the same way.
2. Days 4 to 5: create and claim the Toolradar listing. Outcome: a claimed profile you can edit, verified by a work email on the product's domain or by a DNS record.
3. Days 6 to 10: submit to one review directory, Crozdesk, SourceForge or PeerSpot. Outcome: a submitted listing and a clear view of that directory's review route for your product.
4. Days 11 to 16: invite reviews from real users, following each platform's rules. Outcome: a named reviewer list and reviews that the platform's own checks can process.
5. Days 17 to 22: submit SaaSHub and AlternativeTo, and request developer access on AlternativeTo if you want edits live at once. Outcome: two more profiles that carry the same facts as step 1.
6. Days 23 to 27: set a Product Hunt launch day only if one is planned. Outcome: a launch plan with named people who answer comments that day.
7. Days 28 to 30: compare every profile with your checklist. Outcome: one dated record of each URL, its status and any fact that still differs.

## What a Toolradar listing does and does not do

Toolradar lists 12,000+ published tools in 400+ categories, and each listed product gets its own profile page. Creating a listing and claiming it cost nothing, according to [our vendor FAQ](https://toolradar.com/vendors). Claiming needs a work email on the product's domain or a DNS record, and a claimed owner can edit the profile, answer reviews, see analytics and get embeddable badges from the dashboard.

A new submission is checked automatically first. A clean listing from a verified company goes live within minutes, and anything else is read by a person within ten business days. Later updates to the listing from a vendor who shows the Toolradar badge are reviewed within 48 hours. If the logo is empty, Toolradar looks for one after submission. For a paid or freemium listing with no plans entered, plans are read from the vendor's own pricing page once the listing is published, and a plan is stored only when a real price was read.

> A listing does not buy a ranking. The ranking score and Toolradar Data take no advertising input, and Toolradar's paid placements are explained in [how we make money](https://toolradar.com/how-we-make-money).

Toolradar also sells advertising, content services and a "Featured" premium listing tier. The base listing costs nothing, and the vendor FAQ says advertising and content services are never a condition of being listed. Start the listing at [/company/submit](https://toolradar.com/company/submit), and read the [claim guide](https://toolradar.com/vendors/guides/claim-company-page) before you claim an existing profile.

**Our data, snapshot 5 November 2026:** Toolradar's [software trends report](https://toolradar.com/statistics/software-trends) counted 1,076 published tools added to its directory between 6 October and 5 November 2026, from a catalog of 12,033 published tools. The [saved source snapshot](https://toolradar.com/data/vendor-guide-catalog-snapshot-2026-11-05.json) records the figures and window. An addition is the date a record entered Toolradar, not the product's launch date. Categories can overlap, and a directory addition does not establish a buyer visit, a review or a sale. The live report recomputes, so its current numbers can differ from this saved observation.

## Pre-flight checklist before you apply anywhere

- Toolradar's form takes a logo file in PNG, JPG, WebP or AVIF.
- The category you would pick, chosen from [our categories](https://toolradar.com/categories).
- A one-line positioning that names the product and the buyer it serves.
- Toolradar's form takes a description of up to 500 characters and a "who it is for" line of at least 12 characters.
- The pricing page URL, with the plans as they appear there.
- Toolradar's form takes at least three features before it lets you submit.
- Proof points you can link to, such as a case study, a security page or a named customer.
- A reviewer list of real users who agree to write, with each platform's rules in view before you send an invitation.

## How review rules differ

Each provider sets its own review rules, and this page reports only what those rules say. G2 says that "Every reviewer must verify their identity before writing a review", and that a review which fails its systems or standards "will not be published" ([G2 trust and safety](https://sell.g2.com/g2-trust-and-safety), read 5 November 2026).

PeerSpot's [guidelines](https://www.peerspot.com/guidelines), read 5 November 2026, say "All user reviews must come from real users that have used the product/service in the past 12 months", and "Reviewers must disclose if they've received a financial incentive for writing their review." Those two rules decide what a vendor can invite, so read them before any outreach.

Product Hunt's [launch guide](https://www.producthunt.com/launch), read 5 November 2026, says "The only real rule here is that you cannot ask people directly to upvote your product", and suggests asking people to visit and comment instead. SourceForge ties its Leader or Top Performer recognition to "enough positive user reviews", so a vendor's plan on that route should aim for real reviews rather than a tally.

Toolradar's badge follows the verification method. "Verified" needs a LinkedIn login or an admin decision, "Email confirmed" means an address answered, and "Vendor-affiliated" marks an address on the product's own domain. Its risk score only orders the moderation queue, and it never publishes or rejects a review on its own.

## What we could not verify

- **TrustRadius and Gartner Peer Insights:** their vendor pages returned HTTP 403 to our reader on two attempts each, so neither is in the table. We did not state who runs Gartner Peer Insights, since the page that would say so could not be read.
- **SaaSHub:** how SaaSHub collects reviews is not described on its submit page.
- **Crozdesk:** the steps after the apply button are not described on its home page.
- **Slashdot:** its directory page does not describe the listing steps; the Add Your Software link goes to SourceForge's product form.
- **SourceForge license eligibility:** SourceForge's create page states no license eligibility rule.
- **Product Hunt launch analytics and ranking rules:** not described in the launch guide.
- **Reach and traffic:** none of these providers' audience figures were read, so this page makes no comparison of reach.

## Frequently asked questions

### What alternatives to G2 can a software vendor use for reviews?

PeerSpot, Crozdesk and SourceForge each give user reviews a place on the listing, and Slashdot combines expert reviews with customer reviews. Toolradar gives a claimable profile where the owner can answer reviews. Choose by each platform's review rules rather than by how many sites you join.

### Is Capterra an independent alternative to G2?

No. G2 says it acquired Capterra, Software Advice and GetApp from Gartner in early 2026, so these are related brands. Plan for them as one company.

### Does a Toolradar listing cost anything?

Creating a listing and claiming it cost nothing, according to Toolradar's vendor FAQ. Advertising, content services and the "Featured" premium listing tier are sold separately, and the vendor FAQ says advertising and content services are never a condition of being listed.

### Does a Toolradar listing improve rankings or AI answers?

No. The ranking score takes no advertising input, and Toolradar's vendor page says a listing does not guarantee search rankings or inclusion in AI answers.

### Can I offer customers something for a review?

PeerSpot's guidelines say "Reviewers must disclose if they've received a financial incentive for writing their review." Other platforms set their own rules, so read each platform's rules before you invite reviewers.

### Can I ask customers to upvote my Product Hunt launch?

Not directly. Product Hunt's launch guide says you cannot ask people directly to upvote your product, and suggests asking them to visit and comment instead.

### How does G2 check its reviewers?

G2 says every reviewer must verify their identity before writing a review, and a review that fails its systems or standards will not be published. These are G2's own rules, read on 5 November 2026.
