# How Toolradar Badges Work for Vendors

By [Toolradar Editorial Team](https://toolradar.com/editorial-policy) Updated 5 November 2026 8 min read

Toolradar badges let eligible software vendors display information about a product's listing or standing. The badge-verification flow asks for a followable link from an eligible vendor-controlled page to the Toolradar listing. A successful check can mark the listing as a verified vendor; it does not change the product's score, ranking or editorial assessment.

Toolradar operates a software directory and provides vendor tools and sponsored placements. It is part of Dupple, which sells newsletter sponsorships. The [editorial policy](https://toolradar.com/editorial-policy) and [commercial disclosure](https://toolradar.com/how-we-make-money) explain the relationship between directory content and paid services.

## Distinguish a badge from a claim

A company claim concerns the authority to manage a company record. Badge placement is a separate process that checks a link from an eligible vendor-controlled page to a product's Toolradar listing. A verified company account does not by itself prove that a badge is currently placed on the vendor's site; similarly, a badge check is not a substitute for every company-ownership procedure.

The [company claim guide](https://toolradar.com/vendors/guides/claim-company-page) describes work-email verification and reviewed exceptions. The [software submission guide](https://toolradar.com/vendors/guides/list-your-software) explains the process for a product that is not yet listed. If a record is attached to the wrong company or a domain has changed, use [contact](https://toolradar.com/contact) with the public listing and the correct official site before assuming the badge path can resolve the issue.

The company badges area requires an authenticated user and a verified active company. It shows available badges for published products associated with that company. What an account sees depends on the products, standing and records available at the time. Do not represent an unavailable badge as an award a product has earned.

## Follow the placement and verification flow

Table: stages in the Toolradar badge placement flow, based on the public badge page and implementation checked 5 November 2026. Availability and criteria can change.

| Stage | What the vendor does | What to check |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Identify the product | Open the correct published Toolradar listing | Product name and destination URL |
| Review available badges | Inspect the badge page or authorized company area | The actual label, standing and eligibility |
| Choose a format | Select an available embed or image format | The displayed wording and destination |
| Place the link | Add the badge or qualifying link to an eligible page you control | The page is public and belongs to the vendor |
| Submit the location | Give Toolradar the page URL to check | The URL identifies the page with the link |
| Check the result | Review the verification response | A submitted URL is not itself a successful check |
| Maintain the placement | Keep the link available if continuing the program | The check can be repeated and status can change |
| Review the listing | Inspect the marker and current product page | Verification does not establish a ranking or sales result |

The [vendor page](https://toolradar.com/vendors) describes claiming and available vendor tools. Toolradar's product badge page explains the exchange: the badge links to the product's Toolradar page, and a verified placement can make the link from the Toolradar listing back to the vendor's site followable. The page says this does not change the score, ranking or editorial text. Confirm the current terms for the specific product before placing a badge.

## What the verification checks

The verification code checks for a link to the correct Toolradar product page. A qualifying link must be on the product's own website or an accepted company domain or subdomain. It must be followable under the check: a link marked nofollow, ugc or sponsored does not qualify in that implementation. An image badge can be used, but the checker can also recognize a qualifying text link. A page that cannot be reached or a link to the wrong product may not pass.

The badge page says Toolradar rechecks the placement periodically. If the required link is no longer found, the verified marker can lapse and can return when the placement is found again. A failed fetch, a changed website or a content-management setting can affect a check; inspect the actual result rather than assuming an immediately permanent status. The [tools directory](https://toolradar.com/tools) and [categories](https://toolradar.com/categories) help locate the public product and its context.

The program describes a priority review queue for eligible verified vendors' later listing updates. That is distinct from a guarantee that an initial submission will be approved, that every change is accepted or that a specific outcome will occur. Check the [vendor page](https://toolradar.com/vendors) and the applicable account screen for current eligibility and timing.

## Understand the link exchange

A badge is a link between the vendor's website and a Toolradar listing. Toolradar's public badge page says a verified followable link to the listing can result in a followable link back from the listing to the vendor's site. This is a reciprocal arrangement, not independent proof that a product is better than competitors. A link's existence is different from how a search engine chooses to interpret it.

[Google's guidance on outbound links](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/crawling-indexing/qualify-outbound-links), checked 5 November 2026, describes attributes for different relationships, including paid placements. Its [spam policies](https://developers.google.com/search/docs/essentials/spam-policies), checked the same day, discuss link exchanges and links created primarily to manipulate rankings. Vendors should assess their own circumstances and the current search-engine rules. Toolradar's check may not qualify a link that uses those restrictive attributes; no particular search result is guaranteed.

Do not change a link's disclosure or attributes merely on the assumption that it will improve search performance. The [rating method](https://toolradar.com/how-we-rate) explains Toolradar's scoring approach. A badge, a followable link and a search-engine ranking are different things, controlled by different systems.

## Use the label accurately

A company dashboard can show different kinds of badge or standing, including product awards, category positions and Toolradar Data positions when the product qualifies. Those labels have different meanings and may change. A category position is not the same claim as a customer review, and a current position should not be presented as a permanent award. Open the badge and the underlying listing to see what it actually says.

For example, a fictional developer tool might find an eligible category badge in its dashboard. Its team should check the product name, category and displayed position before embedding it, then use the associated Toolradar destination. If the position later changes, the company should not continue using an old screenshot as proof of the earlier standing without clear context. This example describes a possible workflow, not a real customer result.

The [Toolradar Data methodology](https://toolradar.com/how-we-rate#toolradar-data) explains the relevant comparison method. The [reports](https://toolradar.com/reports), [comparisons](https://toolradar.com/compare) and [alternatives](https://toolradar.com/alternatives) pages serve different discovery tasks. A badge displayed for one product or category should not be used to imply that every product from the company holds the same standing.

## Compare other badge programs carefully

[Gartner Peer Insights' vendor marketing resources](https://gpivendorresources.gartner.com/en/articles/6746511-marketing-tools-for-vendors), checked 5 November 2026, describe assets and usage guidance for its own distinctions. [G2's claimed profile page](https://sell.g2.com/claim-your-profile), checked the same day, describes vendor profile management and review responses. Those providers have their own rules; a Toolradar placement check does not establish eligibility for another provider's badge.

Before using any third-party mark, inspect its name, date, award criteria, link requirements and permitted context. A badge based on a category position, an editorial selection and a verified company marker answer different questions. Do not combine them into a single "best" claim or imply that a paid placement is an independent award.

Toolradar's [advertising page](https://toolradar.com/advertise) describes commercial placements separately. The [pricing-check guide](https://toolradar.com/vendors/guides/how-pricing-is-checked) explains another type of verification date. A company claim, a badge placement check, a pricing check and a sponsored position are not interchangeable and do not establish the same facts.

## If a check fails or a badge looks wrong

Check that the URL submitted is the page where the link actually appears, that the destination is the correct Toolradar product and that the page belongs to an accepted vendor domain. Check the link attributes and whether the page is publicly accessible to the verification service. Website redirects, changed domains or restricted pages can prevent the checker from seeing the expected link.

If a label or category position looks incorrect, identify the exact badge URL and product page, then use the available company or [contact](https://toolradar.com/contact) flow. Do not post login details or private customer data in a general request. A correction request is evaluated separately from an automatic placement check; it does not guarantee a particular rank or editorial outcome.

## What we could not verify

We cannot establish whether a particular vendor's page will pass the check without inspecting the current placement, nor how an external search engine will treat either link. Badge eligibility, labels and program terms can change. A verified marker does not independently establish every product claim, a user's experience, a search result or a sale.

## Frequently asked questions

### Does a Toolradar badge improve my product's ranking?

The product badge page says the placement does not change Toolradar's score, ranking or editorial text. Search engines make their own decisions; no external ranking is guaranteed.

### Must the badge link be followable to pass the check?

The current placement implementation requires a qualifying link to the product's Toolradar page and does not treat links marked nofollow, ugc or sponsored as followable. Review the current rules and your own circumstances before placing it.

### Can I use a text link instead of an image badge?

The placement checker can recognize a qualifying text link as well as an image link. It still checks the destination, link attributes and eligible vendor-controlled domain.

### Does claiming my company automatically verify a badge?

No. Company ownership and a badge placement are separate checks. A verified company account does not establish that a qualifying link is currently present on the vendor's site.

### What happens if the placement is removed?

Toolradar says it rechecks placements and that the verified marker can lapse when the required link is no longer found. A later successful check can restore it.
