We started Cala with the goal of decarbonizing home water heating, lowering costs, and creating a better homeowner experience. Water heating is the second largest use of energy in the home and accounts for around 4% of US greenhouse gas emissions - more than domestic aviation. The problem is that today's systems use archaic on/off controls that can't learn or adapt, leading to higher operating costs, wasted energy, and cold water delivery. Cala is different. Our intelligent heat pump water heater uses patented predictive intelligence that learns your home's hot water rhythms to automatically adjust when, how quickly, and how hot it heats. This ensures you have ample hot water with lower costs and a reduced carbon footprint. Cala also coordinates with other home systems like solar and batteries too. By electrifying water heating and minimizing energy use, we'll significantly reduce GHG emissions today, and as renewable electricity continues to grow Cala will make every shower, bath, and hand wash a zero-emission comfort.
