It solves the problem of tool fragmentation by giving teams a single, unified platform for the entire development lifecycle
The interface can feel overwhelming for new users because there are so many features. Some menus are a bit dense, and onboarding less technical teammates takes time. Self‑hosting GitLab also requires strong server resources; performance can dip if the environment isn’t optimized. A few advanced features are locked behind higher‑tier plans, which may be limiting for small teams
