1Password Developer starts at $2.99/month on the Individual plan.

Verified Sep 2026 from the official pricing page.

Is 1Password Developer worth the price?

80/100

1Password is the premium password manager, and its developer tools, SSH agent, CLI, SDKs (Python, JavaScript, Go), and secrets management, are included in every plan at no extra cost.

At $2.99/month (annual) for individuals, you get a password manager plus an SSH agent that lets you authenticate with biometrics instead of typing passphrases, a CLI for injecting secrets into development workflows, and integrations with Kubernetes, Terraform, and Ansible. The Teams Starter Pack at $19.95/month flat (up to 10 users) is excellent value for small dev teams.

The Business plan at $7.99/user/month adds SSO, SCIM provisioning, and advanced reporting. There is no free tier, the 14-day trial is the only way to test before paying.

Bitwarden is the budget alternative with a free tier, but 1Password developer tooling (SSH agent, service accounts for AI agents, native SDKs) is significantly more mature.

Hidden Costs & Gotchas

No free tier exists. Bitwarden offers a generous free plan; 1Password requires payment after the 14-day trial. At $36/year individual, the cost adds up compared to free alternatives.

The Families plan covers 5 members. Adding extra family members costs ~$1/person/month, not expensive, but the 5-person cap forces an upgrade or add-on for larger households.

The Teams Starter Pack ($19.95/month flat) is capped at 10 users. Growing past 10 requires switching to the Business plan at $7.99/user/month, which means a price jump from $2/user/month to $7.99/user/month.

Service accounts for CI/CD secrets injection are included in Business and Enterprise plans but have usage limits. High-volume automation workflows may need multiple service accounts.

1Password does not offer a self-hosted option. All data is stored on 1Password servers (encrypted). Organizations with strict data residency requirements may need to evaluate this.

Annual billing saves ~25% vs monthly ($2.99 vs $4.99/month individual, $7.99 vs $9.99/user/month Business). Monthly billing is significantly more expensive and adds up quickly for teams.

Our Recommendation

startup

The Teams Starter Pack at $19.95/month (up to 10 users) is the best value in the market, effectively $2/user/month with shared vaults, developer tools, and role-based permissions. Switch to Business only when you exceed 10 people or need SSO.

enterprise

Enterprise pricing is custom and typically runs $10-14/user/month with annual commitment. 1Password integrates with Okta, Azure AD, and JumpCloud for provisioning. The service accounts and SDKs for secrets management compete with HashiCorp Vault, but Vault is free (open source) for self-hosted deployments if you have the engineering resources.

freelancer

The Individual plan at $2.99/month (annual) is worth it for the SSH agent alone, biometric authentication for git push and SSH connections is a genuine productivity gain. If budget is tight, Bitwarden free covers passwords but lacks the developer tooling.

small Business

Business at $7.99/user/month (annual) is the right fit once you need SSO, SCIM provisioning, and advanced audit logs. For 20 users, that is $160/month, compare with Bitwarden Enterprise at $6/user/month ($120/month) to see if 1Password developer features justify the premium.
