Astra DB MCP

The Astra DB MCP server connects an AI client to a DataStax Astra DB database so an agent can manage collections and the documents inside them through the protocol instead of through client libraries. It covers the lifecycle of a collection: creating one with a chosen vector dimension and similarity metric, listing what already exists, inserting and updating documents, deleting them, and reading individual records back by id to confirm what was actually stored. The vector capabilities are why most teams reach for it. Because Astra DB keeps embeddings alongside ordinary document fields, an agent can run similarity search over a collection and combine it with metadata filters, which turns the database into a retrieval store and long term memory the assistant can both fill and query. Building a small corpus, checking what got indexed, and fixing a badly chunked document all happen inside one conversation rather than across a script, a notebook, and a console.
