What is Membase?

Membase is a hosted memory API for AI agents. It keeps one long-term memory that your agents and AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT) search and update through MCP, a REST API, or Python and TypeScript SDKs. Documents and notes are learned into timestamped episodes, and each search result returns its source. Each memory has its own scoped keys. A local mode runs on your machine. Free.

Yes. Membase is free during its beta, with no request quotas. Paid plans are coming soon. When the free chat-turn allowance for the built-in assistant is used up, stored memories stay available and you can connect your own model key.

What is the difference between Membase and Mem0?

Mem0 gives an application memory about its users, scoped by user_id behind one API key. Membase gives one memory to your agents and your AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT), with scoped keys per memory and a source on every search result.

Does Membase work with Claude Code and Cursor?

Yes. Membase has a hosted MCP server at https://api.app.membase.com/mcp-http that works with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, ChatGPT and other MCP clients. It can also run locally with membase --local mcp.

Can I self-host Membase?

Membase offers a local mode: pip install 'unibaseio-membase[local]' runs memory on your machine with OpenAI, Anthropic or Ollama models. The hosted service runs on Membase’s cloud.
