MinIO's MCP server for AIStor gives an agent a controlled interface to object storage. The read tools cover what an assistant needs to work with a bucket: listing buckets, browsing contents by prefix, fetching object metadata and tags, listing object versions, and generating presigned URLs so a file can be downloaded or shared without handing over credentials. Two design choices set it apart from a generic S3 wrapper. Permissions are opt in per class of operation, with writes, deletes and admin calls each requiring an explicit flag when the server starts, so an agent cannot remove a bucket unless you deliberately enabled deletion. And the server includes AI tools that let an agent ask questions about an object's contents across common file formats, or write text back out as a new object, so summarization and retrieval happen without building a separate parsing pipeline. Admin tools expose cluster information, data usage, and bucket lifecycle, replication and versioning configuration. It fits data platform and MLOps teams using AIStor as the storage layer under training sets, log archives or document corpora, where an agent needs to inventory what is stored and read selected objects without a bespoke integration.
