Dropbox Dash MCP exposes Dash, Dropbox's universal search and answers layer, to MCP-compatible clients. Dash indexes content across the applications a company already uses, including Dropbox itself plus connected sources such as document editors, wikis, chat and issue trackers. The MCP server hands an agent that single retrieval surface instead of a separate connector per system.
The exposed surface is deliberately narrow. An agent authenticates to Dropbox through an OAuth flow the server drives, then calls a search tool that runs a query across everything Dash has indexed for that user and returns matching documents with metadata and enough content to reason over. That one tool replaces a stack of per-application integrations, and it inherits Dash's permission model: results are limited to what the signed-in person can already open, so a retrieval call cannot surface a document the user has no access to.
The natural use is grounding. A coding assistant reviewing a pull request can pull the design document or threat model that explains intent, a support agent can find the runbook, and a research task can gather source material scattered across tools nobody remembers the location of. Dropbox has published this pattern for AI-assisted code review, where the agent retrieves security design context before judging an implementation. It suits organizations already running Dash, since the value comes from the index Dash has built rather than from the protocol layer itself.
