Hasura MCP

Hasura generates an API layer over existing databases and services, exposing them as one GraphQL endpoint (a supergraph in its data delivery model) with role based permissions enforced by the engine. A Hasura MCP server places that endpoint behind the Model Context Protocol, so an agent reaches the same governed data surface an application would, rather than being handed raw database credentials. Because GraphQL is introspectable, the server can hand the agent the schema itself: list the models or tables that exist, describe types and their fields, and preview sample rows so the model can construct a valid query before it runs one. From there it executes read queries and aggregations, and mutations where write access has been enabled. A health check tool lets the agent confirm the endpoint is reachable before starting a longer chain of calls. This introspect-then-query loop is what makes GraphQL a natural fit for agents: the model does not need the schema baked into its prompt. The main draw is that permissions do not have to be reinvented for the agent. Whatever role the connection authenticates as, the engine still applies its row and column rules, which makes this a defensible pattern for exposing production data to an assistant without building a bespoke read API. Implementations range from vendor tooling to community servers, so confirm whether mutations are enabled before pointing anything at a live environment.
