Snyk MCP

Snyk ships its MCP server inside the Snyk CLI, which puts security scanning directly in the loop of an AI coding session. Instead of generating code and finding out at pull request time that it pulled in a vulnerable package, the agent scans what it just wrote and acts on the result in the same conversation. The server runs locally, so source code is analyzed through the CLI a developer already trusts rather than being handed to a separate hosted service. The exposed tools cover Snyk's scan types: static analysis of first-party code, software composition analysis of open source dependencies and their transitive tree, container image scanning, and Infrastructure as Code configuration checks. It also tests the components listed in an existing SBOM file, and can produce an AI Bill of Materials describing the AI components in a project's supply chain. Results come back with enough context for the model to propose a fix, upgrade a dependency, or tighten a Terraform resource. Authentication reuses an existing Snyk CLI session or triggers a browser login, with a token environment variable as the fallback for headless machines. Transport is stdio for local use, with a server-sent events option. It is aimed at developers leaning heavily on AI assistants who want a guardrail on generated code, and at security teams standardizing that guardrail across an engineering organization without adding another review step.
