About OpenSCAD
OpenSCAD is a free software for creating solid 3D CAD models. Unlike artistic 3D modeling software like Blender, OpenSCAD focuses on the technical aspects of 3D modeling, making it ideal for designing machine parts and other precise objects. It operates as a 3D-compiler, reading a script file that describes the object and then rendering the 3D model from that script. This approach provides designers with full control over the modeling process, allowing for easy modifications and the creation of parametrically defined designs. The software supports two primary modeling techniques: Constructive Solid Geometry (CSG) and the extrusion of 2D outlines. It can import 2D outlines and design parameters from AutoCAD DXF files, and it supports reading and creating 3D models in STL and OFF file formats. OpenSCAD is available across multiple operating systems, including Linux/UNIX, MS Windows, and Mac OS X, and is maintained by Marius Kintel under the General Public License version 2.
