Best AI Tools for Controllers in 2026

TL;DR

Short answer: FloQast is the close system for a controller who will not pay per seat, and its own pricing page publishes no dollar. On AWS Marketplace, sold by FloQast, Close Optimization starts at $22,000 for 12 months and Close Automation starts at $35,000, both before scoping (verified September 2026).

Numeric and BlackLine are the other close picks, and both stay custom quotes. Ramp's free plan covers coded spend while those quotes are open, and BILL Essentials is $49 per user per month for AP and AR.

Buy the close first, then price the seats you can actually read on a page.

A controller should buy the close before the forecast. The number you sign is a reconciliation, a journal entry, and a flux comment, which a planning suite will not prepare.

Toolradar data: across the 9 AI finance tools we track, 4 (44%) are paid-only, and 11% offer a free or freemium plan.

Most close vendors on this list hide the price, so the seats you can defend this week are the published ones. These 10 are for the person who owns month-end sign-off.

Forecasting sits in the AI tools for CFOs guide, and day-to-day payables sit in the finance teams guide when the job is the bill rather than the binder. The wider set is the AI for finance catalog.

FloQast is the close pick when extra reviewers must not move the bill. Ramp is the published-price pick for coding and accruals while that quote is still open.

How we chose: these 10 had to help a controller sign the month, judged against the 9 AI finance tools in the catalog. Every price was read on the vendor site in September 2026, with no paid placement, and the method is on how we rate.

The floors are on FloQast pricing, FloQast on AWS Marketplace, Numeric, BlackLine's July 27, 2026 release, and Ramp.

FloQast

Top Pick
  • 4.6 on G2 (1,415 reviews)
  • 4.9 on Capterra (106 reviews)

Controllers who want a close checklist priced by scope, not by seat.

FloQast screenshot
+AWS Marketplace, sold by FloQast, lists Close Automation at $35,000, Connected Compliance at $30,000, and Compliance Pro at $45,000, so a SOX filer should not budget the close as the audit.
+FloQast does not charge per user, so reviewers do not raise the bill, and Close Optimization includes the Request Agent while Close Automation matches transactions and posts journal entries.
+Reporting reconciles intercompany with AI and explains the flux a reviewer has to sign, and Transform, the no-code agent builder, cites ISO 42001 beside 3,000 implementations and 3,500+ companies.
−FloQast still publishes no dollar on its own pricing page, Reporting and Transform have no AWS start, and every AWS figure requires scoping, so the start is a floor rather than the invoice.
−AWS fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable, and Connected Compliance is SOX 404(a) while Compliance Pro is SOX 404(b), so the close package is not an audit package you can unwind.
Fair value

FloQast's pricing is opaque, as all tiers are 'Contact Sales.' This approach suggests a focus on enterprise clients with complex needs, where custom pricing is standard.

2
Numeric logo

Numeric

  • 4.8 on G2 (65 reviews)

Teams whose bank rec sits on NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, or Xero.

Numeric screenshot
+Cash matching covers up to 95% of bank transactions, and you can buy close, cash, or billing without replacing the ERP, so the bank rec can be funded on its own.
+The cash product ingests 12,000+ banks and drafts NetSuite journal entries, with rules from one-to-one through many-to-many, which is the buyer stuck on messy matches.
+Close Management includes flux and auto-reconciliations on NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks, and Xero, while Prism, the agent inbox, sits only on the ERP replacement.
−Numeric publishes no dollar, the quote uses transaction volume and seats, and onboarding is scoped separately, so the subscription is not the year-one cost.
−A 90%+ claim on bank, AR, and AP recs is not the same as 95% of bank transactions, so the order has to name the rate you are buying.
Fair value

It's a reasonable entry point for small teams, but larger teams needing automation should budget for significant uplift.

Watch out

Onboarding included only in Growth

3
BlackLine logo

BlackLine

  • 4.5 on G2 (1,103 reviews)

Enterprise controllers who need a person to approve every AI item.

BlackLine screenshot
+Verity Prepare went general on July 27, 2026, drafts items with reasoning and a confidence score, and still needs a person to sign, while early adopters cut prep time by up to 92%.
+Verity Accruals cites up to 80% less manual accrual work and a close 3 days faster, and Verity Flux writes the transaction-level reason a reviewer asks for on a balance change.
+BlackLine cites ISO 42001, says generative tasks are not used to train general models, and reports nearly 4,300 customers, which is the line to keep if close data cannot train a vendor model.
−BlackLine publishes no list price and does not say whether Prepare, Accruals, Flux, and Match share one fee, so one demo quote can understate the stack.
−The 92% figure is an early-adopter result in the release, not a term you can hold them to unless it is written into the order.
Fair value

BlackLine does not publicly disclose its pricing, which is common for enterprise-grade SaaS solutions.

4
Trintech logo

Trintech

  • 4.5 on G2 (547 reviews)

Controllers choosing a mid-market close suite or an enterprise platform.

Trintech screenshot
+The close names a Variance Analysis Agent, a Flux Agent, an Exception Management Agent, an Accruals Agent, and a Data Access Agent, and those names are not a bundle until the fee lists them.
+Trintech publishes 99%+ auto-match rates, a 96%+ cut in time on daily recs, and a 75%+ shorter close, so put those same metrics in the order if you need them.
+Adra is the mid-market suite and Cadency is the enterprise platform, a split stated on December 19, 2024, so pick Adra only when you fit the standard package.
−Trintech publishes no list price, and the March 2026 Adra agreement bills from the order, due in 30 days, with access suspended after 60 days late, so a late invoice can stop the close.
−Standard Adra services cover Balancer and Task Manager for 20 users and 5 legal entities, and Matcher for 10 reconciliation groups and 2 source files, so a sixth entity or a third source file falls outside.
5
Workiva logo

Workiva

  • 4.5 on G2 (2,148 reviews)

Controllers assembling the reporting package and the audit binder.

+Every plan includes unlimited users, so a reviewer, an auditor, and a second entity do not add a seat, which suits a binder many people only read.
+The AI Intelligent Companion and a prompt library are included on every plan, with 70+ connectors including BlackLine, Oracle, and Workday, so a BlackLine team can feed the binder without a second close system.
+A Forrester Consulting study on the pricing page cites a 208% ROI and payback in under 6 months, across 180+ countries, and that study is the vendor's reference rather than your payback.
−Workiva publishes no list price, some solutions use good, better, and best packaging, and the rest are scoped, so the budget stays a project until the quote names the documents.
−It links numbers across documents and does not match the bank or post the journal, which is why Workiva vs BlackLine is a filing purchase, not the signature.
Fair value

Workiva's 'Enterprise' tier, with its custom pricing, is likely expensive given its comprehensive feature set for reporting and compliance.

6
Trullion logo

Trullion

  • 4.7 on G2 (62 reviews)
  • 4.8 on Capterra (13 reviews)

Controllers who still tie ASC 842 or IFRS 16 leases in spreadsheets.

+Trullion covers ASC 842, IFRS 16, GASB 87, and FRS 102, and OCR pulls names, dates, and payment terms from PDF and Excel, which is the case for a portfolio still in a workbook.
+It generates journal entries and disclosure reports it calls 100% auditable, with a log back to the contract and bulk modification detection, which is what an auditor asks for when a lease changes.
+Its leases page says a Claroty user cut more than a week of lease work to a few minutes, a reference to request if your portfolio looks similar, not a timeline to budget.
−Trullion publishes no list price, and the cost follows portfolio size, lease count, the standards you turn on, and how much automation you buy.
−A lease subledger does not run the close checklist, so Trullion does not replace FloQast, Numeric, or BlackLine when the pain is sign-off.
7
Vic.ai logo

Vic.ai

  • 4.7 on G2 (26 reviews)

Controllers whose month-end waits on invoice coding.

+Vic.ai cites 5x faster invoice processing, 99% accuracy without coding or setup, and an 85% no-touch rate by month 6, claims to test on your volume before they become a budget line.
+It also cites a 7-month payback, which you should hold next to your own invoice volume rather than adopt as the payback for a lighter pile.
+Andrew Turkish, VP and Corporate Controller at Diesel Direct, is quoted at 97% accuracy and 3 to 6 hours back per analyst each week, the reference to request if your coding pile looks similar.
−Vic.ai publishes no list price, so it stays out of the close budget until the quote names volume, users, and modules.
−The same homepage sells VicCard and expense management, so an AP evaluation can add a card program you did not scope.

Watch out

Potential minimum contract values

8
Ramp logo

Ramp

  • 4.8 on G2 (2,506 reviews)
  • 4.9 on Capterra (221 reviews)

Controllers who need accruals and coding before a close suite.

+The free plan includes AI invoice OCR, bill pay, and basic rules on QuickBooks Online and Xero, enough to code spend while FloQast or Numeric is still unscoped.
+Plus is $15 per user per month plus a platform fee, and it adds AI coding, automated accruals, and NetSuite and Sage Intacct, so leave the free plan when the cutoff needs those accruals.
+FDIC-insured checking is 2% APY as of September 23, 2026, and a 30-day Plus trial lets you test accruals before you accept the platform fee.
−Plus is not a flat seat: annual billing saves 20%, procurement is an add-on, and 1099 filing is $0.65 per IRS filing with state filing free, so a seat-only model misses those charges.
−The investment account shows 4.62% yield to maturity, which is not the insured checking rate, and automated accruals are not on the free plan.
Great value

Ramp's pricing is highly generous, especially with its robust Free tier that offers features often found in paid plans from competitors.

Watch out

No explicit mention of minimum user count for Plus

9
BILL logo

BILL

  • 4.4 on G2 (1,811 reviews)

Controllers who want a published AP seat and live sync later.

+Essentials includes the W-9 Agent, approval workflows, and a CSV handoff rather than a live sync, so use it when the close can absorb a file and skip it when NetSuite must update itself.
+The Invoice Coding Agent is on Team at $65 per user per month and on Corporate at $89, which also adds procurement and approver-only discounts, so buy those plans if line coding is the job.
+Essentials, Team, and Corporate each cite 4 million vendors, while NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Dynamics sync, and 2-way or 3-way match sit on custom Enterprise.
−Spend and Expense has no per-user software fee and is not payables, and AP and AR are paid plans, with a free trial in most cases rather than on every deployment.
−The line about spending 50% less time on AP comes from a 2021 survey of over 2,000 customers, an old survey rather than the hours this close will return.
10
HighRadius logo

HighRadius

  • 4.3 on G2 (238 reviews)
  • 4.4 on Capterra (13 reviews)
  • 3.5 on PeerSpot (2 reviews)

Controllers whose bank rec waits on unapplied cash.

HighRadius screenshot
+Implementation and the subscription are free until go-live, then a fraction of realized savings, so you can start without a subscription line and the bill begins when the criteria say it does.
+HighRadius describes a 24-month test of that model and requires a Mutually Agreed Success Criteria document, with executive sign-off, before the gain share has a denominator.
+The same announcement covers 190+ agents across order-to-cash, close, payables, and treasury, and names 1,500+ enterprises, which is a reason to keep the first order on cash application.
−The gain-share percent is not on the page, so you cannot put a HighRadius year next to a Ramp seat until the criteria have a dollar.
−A cash-application call can become a suite, because the announcement also sells consolidation, payables, and treasury, which should be a separate approval from the bank rec.
Good value

HighRadius' Outcome Based Pricing is innovative and low-risk for enterprise clients, with zero upfront implementation fees and payment only when AI agents deliver value.

Watch out

Gain share percentage may be high (e.g., 20-30% of savings)

What an AI tool for a controller actually does

An AI tool for controllers is software that prepares, matches, or explains a balance the controller must sign: a reconciliation, a journal entry, a flux comment, or a lease schedule.

The close is the product FloQast, Numeric, BlackLine, and Trintech own: the checklist, the match, and the sign-off an auditor will ask to see. Workiva owns the reporting file those balances land in, so it comes after the accounts tie. Trullion owns the lease subledger that has to tie before you close, and a missed lease will hold the binder.

Vic.ai codes the invoices that otherwise stall the accrual. Ramp and BILL put a published price on that same cutoff, so you can fund the coding while the close quote is still open. HighRadius applies cash so the bank rec is not waiting on a remittance PDF.

A chatbot that drafts a paragraph is not on this list. If it cannot point at a general-ledger account, it belongs in the accountants guide, not in the close.

Why the controller stack fails in the quote

Most close vendors hide the price, so you cannot rank FloQast against BlackLine from the website alone. FloQast is the exception only on AWS Marketplace, and even there the number is a starting cost that still requires scoping. Treat that floor as a placeholder, not as a purchase order.

Numeric, BlackLine, Trintech, Workiva, Trullion, and Vic.ai still ask for a quote. The first call is a scope conversation, not a budget line you can defend this week, so those six are not the answer if the board wants a number now.

Price what is published before you request a quote for the job those tools cannot do. Ramp and BILL already show a seat, enough to code spend and pay bills while the close scope is written. HighRadius shows a zero fee until go-live, then a share of savings with no percent on the page, so the year after go-live is still unpriced.

The ledger itself belongs in the accounting software guide. The system of record belongs in the ERP guide.

Key Features to Look For

  • A checklist tied to the ledger (Essential)

FloQast Close Optimization centralizes status and adds a Request Agent, so the close stops living in email. Numeric adds live ERP integrations and auto-reconciliations on the books you already run.

  • A match you can audit (Essential)

BlackLine's Verity Prepare drafts the reconciliation and keeps a person as the final signature. Trintech publishes a 99%+ auto-match claim, and that claim belongs in the order if you need it.

  • Flux in the same system (Essential)

FloQast Reporting surfaces variances with AI explanations next to the number. BlackLine's Verity Flux writes a transaction-level reason, the comment the reviewer actually asks for.

  • Accruals before the cutoff (Essential)

Ramp lists automated accruals on Plus, not on the free plan, so the free seat will not finish the cutoff. BlackLine's Verity Accruals drafts the entry and cites a close that is 3 days faster.

  • A lease schedule that ties (Important)

Trullion extracts ASC 842, IFRS 16, and GASB 87 terms from the PDF and generates journal entries that trace back to the contract, which is what you need when the lease workbook still slips the close.

  • A price you can put in this year's budget (Important)

Ramp, BILL, and FloQast's AWS starting costs can go in a spreadsheet this week. The other close suites cannot, until a quote names entities and volume.

  • ERP scope in writing (Important)

Ramp's free plan reaches QuickBooks Online and Xero. NetSuite and Sage Intacct start on Plus, and BILL's live sync for those ERPs is the custom Enterprise tier, not the published AP seat.

  • A human still signs (Nice to have)

BlackLine requires approval before an AI item hits the record, and FloQast Transform cites ISO 42001, but neither claim replaces reading the support yourself.

What to decide before the demo

  1. If the team will not leave the checklist in email, start with FloQast or Numeric before you book a planning suite from the CFO guide.

  2. Count legal entities before you accept Adra's standard services package, because Balancer and Task Manager stop that package at 5 entities and 20 users.

  3. Buy the close, the lease subledger, and cash application as separate jobs. A lease tool will not match the bank, and a card program will not sign the reconciliation.

  4. Do not rank an AWS starting cost against Ramp or BILL until both numbers are the year-one total, including scoping and the platform fee.

  5. Name the ERP in the first call. QuickBooks Online and Xero are on the cheap seats. NetSuite and Sage Intacct move you to Plus, to BILL Enterprise, or to a close quote.

Evaluation Checklist

  • Ask FloQast for the final number above the AWS start, and ask whether Reporting and Transform are in it, because those two packages have no published start.

  • On Numeric, get the match rate in the order. Up to 95% of bank transactions is not the same claim as 90%+ across bank, AR, and AP.

  • On BlackLine, list which Verity agents are in the fee, because Prepare, Accruals, Flux, and Match are separate names and a demo price may skip one.

  • On Ramp Plus, add the unpublished platform fee, and confirm automated accruals are on that plan rather than on the free plan.

  • On BILL, use Essentials only for a CSV close, because the Invoice Coding Agent is on Team and Corporate and NetSuite sync is Enterprise.

  • On HighRadius, write the success criteria and the gain-share percent before go-live, because the announcement does not publish the percent.

Mistakes to Avoid

  • ×

Treating an AWS start as the FloQast contract understates the year, because those marketplace floors still require scoping, and the listing says refunds are not offered.

  • ×

Buying the free Ramp plan for accruals misses the cutoff, because automated accruals and reconciliation, plus NetSuite and Sage Intacct, sit on Plus rather than on that free seat.

  • ×

Reading the investment yield as the cash rate overstates insured balances. The checking rate is the APY dated September 23, 2026, and the higher figure is yield to maturity.

  • ×

Stopping BILL at Essentials for AI coding skips the Invoice Coding Agent, which the page lists on Team and Corporate, while Essentials stays on a CSV handoff.

  • ×

Signing Adra past the standard services package leaves the next entity or the next source file outside Balancer, Task Manager, and Matcher.

  • ×

Booking BlackLine's early-adopter prep cut as your close treats a result from the July 27, 2026 release as a promise that release does not make.

Expert Tips

  • →

Put the AWS floors in the spreadsheet, then demand the scoped total, because Reporting and Transform are real packages with no published start.

  • →

Run Numeric and FloQast on different scripts. Numeric quotes transactions and seats, and FloQast quotes packages with no per-user charge, which Numeric vs FloQast lays out.

  • →

Match the ERP before the cards. Ramp's free plan stops at QuickBooks Online and Xero. BILL's NetSuite and Sage Intacct sync is Enterprise, not the Team seat.

  • →

Keep Workiva as the binder. It links the narrative to the number and does not substantiate the account, which is why Workiva vs BlackLine is a different purchase.

  • →

Compare Vic.ai with a published AP seat before a no-price invoice pilot. The side-by-side is Vic.ai vs BILL. Stampli also publishes no dollar, and full Cognitive AI is marked available rather than included, as in Stampli vs BILL.

  • →

Send the forecast upstairs. Planning suites belong in the CFO guide. Receipt policy belongs in the expense guide.

Red Flags to Watch For

  • !

An AWS start treated as the FloQast invoice, because scoping still changes it and the marketplace says fees are non-cancellable and non-refundable.

  • !

A BlackLine demo that quotes the 92% early-adopter cut as your close, because the July 27, 2026 release does not make that a service level.

  • !

Adra sold as unlimited, because the standard services package is 20 users and 5 legal entities, and Matcher is 10 reconciliation groups and 2 source files.

  • !

Ramp's 4.62% read as insured cash, because as of September 23, 2026 FDIC checking is 2% APY and the higher figure is yield to maturity.

  • !

BILL Essentials bought for AI line coding, because the Invoice Coding Agent shows up on the $65 and $89 plans, not on the entry AP seat.

  • !

A Vic.ai quote that quietly adds VicCard, because the homepage sells expense management beside autonomous invoice processing.

The Bottom Line

FloQast if you will scope a close that does not bill per seat, using the AWS starts as a floor and not as the invoice. Numeric if the pain is cash matching on the ERP you already have. BlackLine if a large team must approve every AI reconciling item. Trintech if you are choosing Adra's standard package or Cadency at enterprise volume.

Workiva if the job is the reporting file, with unlimited users and a quote. Trullion if the leases are still in a workbook. Vic.ai if invoices hold the cutoff and you can fund a quote. Ramp on the free plan for coding, or Plus once you accept the platform fee and want accruals. BILL if you want a published AP seat without a new card. HighRadius if unapplied cash holds the bank rec and you will write the gain share into the agreement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best AI tool for controllers in 2026?

FloQast, if you want the close checklist and you will not pay per user. Its pricing page publishes no dollar, so the public floors are the AWS Marketplace starts for Close Optimization and Close Automation, and scoping is still required.

Numeric is the alternative when the bank rec on NetSuite or Sage Intacct is the bottleneck, and it publishes no dollar. Ramp is the published-price option for coding while those quotes stay open.

How much do AI tools for controllers cost in 2026?

September 2026 list prices: FloQast's AWS starts are $22,000, $35,000, $30,000, and $45,000 for 12 months. Ramp Plus is $15 per user per month plus a platform fee, above a free plan, and 1099 filing is $0.65 per IRS filing.

BILL is $49, $65, or $89 per user per month. Numeric, BlackLine, Trintech, Workiva, Trullion, and Vic.ai publish no dollar. HighRadius charges no fee until go-live, then an unpublished share of savings.

Is there a free AI tool for controllers in 2026?

Ramp's free plan is $0 per user per month, with AI invoice capture and bill pay on QuickBooks Online and Xero, and it does not include automated accruals. BILL Spend and Expense has no per-user software fee, and it is not the payables product.

FloQast, Numeric, BlackLine, Trintech, Workiva, Trullion, and Vic.ai publish no free plan. HighRadius waives fees until go-live, which is a delayed bill rather than a free close tool.

How do FloQast and Numeric compare for a controller?

FloQast does not charge per user and sells packages. Close Automation is the AI match and journal-entry package, while SOX 404(a) and SOX 404(b) are different packages, so an audit requirement changes the buy. AWS lists starting costs, and the website does not.

Numeric quotes from transactions and seats, sells close, cash, and billing separately, and puts Prism on the ERP replacement rather than on every module. See Numeric vs FloQast.

Can Ramp or BILL replace close software for a controller?

No. Ramp Plus adds automated accruals, reconciliation, and AI coding once you leave the free plan, and BILL's paid seats code and pay bills. Neither is the reconciliation binder BlackLine, FloQast, or Trintech sell.

Use them so the cutoff is clean, then keep a close tool for sign-off. The fuller payables list is the AP guide.

Do controllers need both BlackLine and Workiva in 2026?

Only when both jobs are real. BlackLine prepares the reconciliation and, as of the July 27, 2026 release, can draft items for a person to approve. Workiva links the narrative, the spreadsheet, and the filing, with unlimited users and no published price.

Workiva's plan list includes a BlackLine connector, a reason to buy both only when the binder and the substantiation are separate projects. See Workiva vs BlackLine.
