How large the analytics category is

Analytics is the fourth-largest category we publish, behind developer tools (1,746), productivity (1,727) and AI assistants (1,437), and just ahead of AI and automation (1,065). 1,254 tools is 11.8% of the directory. "Analytics" in this catalog is a wide net: product analytics, web analytics, survey tools, social listening, BI, session replay, even spreadsheet software that teams treat as their warehouse. That width is why the headcount is huge and why a 4.90 session-replay tool can share a leaderboard with Microsoft Excel.

The category is still being indexed. 1,165 tools, 93% of the set, were added to Toolradar in 2026. That is a directory fact, not a claim that 93% of analytics vendors launched this year. It does mean most of the long tail in this file is newly visible to us, so the 2026 snapshot is the first time we can talk about the category at this scale.

How analytics tools are priced

This is a paid-first market.

800 of 1,254 tools (64%) are strictly paid once you roll enterprise, custom and contact-sales into the paid side. 454 (36%) offer a free tier. Across the whole catalog, 55% of tools offer some free access (AI tools statistics). Analytics is 19 points below that line.

The catalog-wide median entry price is $20 a month, measured on 2,506 tools that publish a paid tier (software pricing statistics). Business intelligence in that same table lands at a $55 median (54 priced tools) and product analytics at $54 (23 priced tools). Those two cuts sit inside this broader analytics bucket and they are where the paid-first pattern is loudest. Event volume, seats, and "talk to sales" for the warehouse connector do the rest.

How analytics tools are rated

816 of 1,254 tools carry a rating (65% of the category), on 443,466 reviews. Unweighted mean 4.42. Review-weighted mean 4.48. Coverage is thinner than e-signature (83% rated) because the long tail of new index records has not gathered third-party profiles yet.

Excel on both lists is the tell. A lot of "analytics" in the real world is still a spreadsheet, and 22,594 reviews at 4.80 say people are fine with that. SurveyMonkey leading volume is the survey-as-analytics overlap. Glassbox leading satisfaction on 809 reviews is the specialist pattern we keep seeing: a tool that does one job (digital experience) for one buyer outscores a horizontal platform that has to be everyone's dashboard.

G2 is the analytics review graph. 296,949 reviews is more than twice Capterra. If you only read one site when you shortlist, you are reading G2 whether you meant to or not.

A free analytics tier is usually a sample, not a product. Event caps, missing retention, and the warehouse export sitting behind a sales call are the norm. That is the opposite of no-code, where the free path is how the vendor finds you. Budget for the plan that includes the data you already have, not the landing-page number. The best analytics software ranking is the place to do that cut by job (product, web, BI, survey).

How this data was measured

Every first-party figure is computed from the Toolradar directory on September 17, 2026, covering the 1,254 published tools we categorize under Analytics. Pricing model is read from each vendor's official pricing page. Ratings and review counts are aggregated from third-party platforms (G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and others), not from Toolradar's own reviews. The leaderboard floor is 500 aggregated reviews. Catalog-wide price medians come from the same pricing-details parse used on software pricing statistics. This is a directory snapshot, not a survey.
