Hex MCP

Hex is a collaborative data workspace where teams write SQL and Python in notebooks, build semantic models on top of the warehouse, and publish the result as interactive apps. The Hex MCP server is a hosted endpoint that an MCP client connects to over OAuth, so an assistant reaches the same workspace analysts use rather than a separate copy of the data. Through the server an agent can search existing Hex projects and read their metadata, start a project run and poll its status or cancel it, and open a conversational thread against the workspace to explore data in plain language. Queries resolve through the semantic models and metric definitions a team has already validated, so the numbers an agent reports line up with what the same question returns inside Hex. It suits data teams that want existing analytical work reused by assistants in an editor or chat client instead of rebuilt ad hoc: a support engineer pulling a figure without opening the notebook, an analyst kicking off a parameterized run from the terminal, an agent grounding a written summary in warehouse data. It assumes a Hex workspace with published projects and connected warehouses, and acts as a search and orchestration layer over Hex rather than a replacement for it.
