Expensify MCP

Expensify MCP connects an AI assistant to the expense data already sitting in an Expensify account. The scope is deliberately narrow: a single search tool, running strictly read only, across expenses, receipts, reports and invoices. That narrowness is the design, not a gap. Because the server exposes no write path, an assistant cannot approve a bill, edit an expense, lock a card or move money, and no instruction smuggled into a receipt description or vendor name can push it into doing so. Access is scoped to the permissions the connected user already holds in the product, so an individual submitter sees their own history while an admin sees whatever their role allows. The practical effect is that finance questions become conversational: which expenses in a period are missing receipts, how a spend category moved across reports, which invoices are still outstanding, which submissions are stuck waiting on approval. It fits finance and accounting teams working through a month end close, managers reconciling team spend, and individuals assembling reimbursement claims, all without exporting spreadsheets or building a reporting query first. Since everything flows through one search interface, the useful pattern is to ask for a filtered slice of records and let the assistant summarize or reconcile it, then carry out any actual approval or edit inside Expensify itself.
