Nodus Research is a free, open-source, local-first desktop workspace for academic research, teaching, and study at nodusresearch.com. The GitHub project (Drakonis96/nodus) ships Mac, Windows, and Linux builds plus a Zotero plugin (nodus-zotero.xpi). Vaults and search indexes stay on your computer. You can connect Zotero collections, index PDF, EPUB, and HTML attachments, search with a local quantized E5 model (no embedding API key), and get answers with passage and page citations. Optional online models (from leading providers, local models, and others) are opt-in. The desktop app can extract themes, agreements, contradictions, and research gaps and build idea graphs. The current license on 4.x is GNU AGPL. There is no paid cloud plan on the site.
