Ory FAQ

How does Ory support developers building secure applications?

Ory provides open-source identity infrastructure that developers can self-host, offering comprehensive features for authentication, authorization, and user management. This allows developers to integrate robust identity services directly into their applications with a modern architecture.

Which teams would benefit most from using Ory?

Teams that require open-source identity infrastructure and prefer self-hosting their authentication, authorization, and user management services are the best fit for Ory. It is particularly suited for organizations prioritizing control over their identity stack.

How does Ory compare to Keycloak for identity management?

Ory offers open-source, self-hostable identity infrastructure with a modern architecture, similar to Keycloak. However, Ory's offering is characterized by its comprehensive features and active development, while some users might find its multiple products confusing initially.

What kind of trade-offs should users consider when adopting Ory?

Users should be aware that Ory has a learning curve and can involve setup complexity due to its self-hosted nature. While the core is open source, certain enterprise features are part of paid plans, and its community might be smaller compared to more established solutions.

How is Ory priced?

Ory is available on a free tier, allowing users to get started with its open-source identity infrastructure. Paid plans are offered for those requiring more extensive usage and additional features beyond the free offering.

Can Ory be deployed in a cloud environment?

Yes, Ory offers a cloud option in addition to its self-hostable identity services. This provides flexibility for teams to choose their preferred deployment model for authentication, authorization, and user management.
