Tinkerfont FAQ
How does Tinkerfont help UI designers test typography on a live site?
Tinkerfont lets UI designers inspect every font on a live website via a right-click inspector or a full-page scanner, then swap any font with a selection from Bunny Fonts or a custom uploaded file. Changes are scoped to specific areas, and rules persist per hostname, enabling iterative testing across sessions without editing CSS.
How does Tinkerfont differ from FontLab for live website font testing?
Tinkerfont is a browser extension designed for inspecting and replacing fonts on live websites, while FontLab is desktop software for creating and editing font files. Tinkerfont requires no account, works directly in Chrome and Firefox, and focuses on real-world typography testing rather than font design.
Which browsers does Tinkerfont officially support?
Tinkerfont officially supports Chrome and Firefox. Other Chromium-based browsers may work but are not formally tested, and custom font rules imported on a new device require re-uploading font files because rules are stored as JSON locally.
What kind of user benefits most from Tinkerfont's no-account approach?
Designers, developers, and typography enthusiasts who value privacy and want to test fonts on live sites without signing up benefit most from Tinkerfont's no-account approach. It collects no data and is fully free, making it ideal for quick, frictionless font experiments.
How is Tinkerfont priced?
Tinkerfont is free to use with no paid plan required, though optional supporter contributions are accepted. There is no account needed, and all features including font inspection, swapping with Bunny Fonts, custom uploads, and JSON import/export are included at no cost.
Can Tinkerfont replace fonts on pages that block external font loads?
Yes, Tinkerfont works on most live websites even with strict font policies by inlining fonts as data URLs. This allows font replacement and testing on pages where standard external font loading is restricted.
Does Tinkerfont allow exporting font inspection data for collaboration?
Yes, Tinkerfont lets you export and import all font rules as JSON files, making it easy to share inspection and replacement setups across browsers or devices. This feature supports collaborative typography reviews without losing configuration.
