Avalara MCP

Avalara publishes a set of MCP servers covering its tax compliance product line, so an AI agent can handle compliance steps that otherwise require a developer to integrate several APIs. Calculation is served by the AvaTax surface, where an agent looks up rates and calculates tax for a transaction. Filing is served by the returns surface, which covers preparing and filing returns and the remittance workflow around them. International compliance is covered by the e-invoicing and live reporting surface, which handles continuous transaction controls in the countries that mandate them. Other servers address the parts of compliance that are usually manual. Registration and license management cover the business registration lifecycle. Exemption certificate management handles collecting and validating certificates from customers, which is the classic source of audit exposure when it is tracked in a shared drive. Item classification assigns product and tariff codes, tax content supplies regulatory updates and rules, and dedicated coverage exists for communications tax and cross border calculations. A separate server makes Avalara's developer documentation queryable, so an agent writing an integration can check the API reference in the same session. Authorization uses OAuth 2.1, with the user signing in and granting consent for the specific services an agent may reach.
