What is WorkOS MCP?

Editorial review
WorkOS supplies the enterprise plumbing that B2B software needs once it starts selling upmarket: SSO connections, directory sync, organizations and user management, audit logs, and hosted authentication. Its MCP server is a remote server that puts the WorkOS dashboard behind an agent, so setup and debugging that would otherwise mean clicking through admin screens can be described in a sentence instead. The exposed surface follows the dashboard's own object model. An agent can create and inspect organizations, configure and check authentication connections, invite users and adjust their access, change sign in page branding, and read audit log events. That covers the two jobs that eat the most time in an enterprise rollout: onboarding a new customer tenant with its own identity provider, and working out why one specific person cannot sign in. The security boundary is deliberate and worth understanding before you connect it. The agent acts as the authenticated dashboard user and inherits exactly their permissions, it works against one environment at a time with the sandbox as the default, and it is blocked from operations nobody should automate: impersonating a user, touching API keys, OAuth secrets or certificates, changing the MCP access controls themselves, or deleting the team. That makes it a fit for platform and support engineers doing tenant setup and live authentication debugging.

Is WorkOS MCP worth the price?

Good value

WorkOS MCP pricing is generous for startups with its free AuthKit tier for up to 1 million users and free Audit Logs, but costs can escalate quickly for enterprises needing many SSO or Directory Sync connections at $125 each.

The per-connection volume discounts (e.g., $65/connection for 51-100) are fair but still add up, and Radar at $100 per 50k checks is reasonable for fraud prevention. This pricing is best for B2B SaaS teams scaling from free to enterprise, especially those with moderate connection counts.

Hidden Costs & Gotchas

$125 per SIEM connection for log streaming

$99 per million events for event retention

$100 per 50k checks beyond first 1,000 free Radar checks

$99 per month for custom domain

WorkOS MCP FAQ

How does WorkOS MCP help developers automate security-sensitive tasks?

WorkOS MCP allows agents to perform operations while inheriting the connected user's exact role, stripping secrets from responses, and requiring confirmation for destructive actions. This ensures that automation remains secure and aligned with existing access controls.

How does WorkOS MCP compare to HashiCorp Vault?

Unlike HashiCorp Vault, which is a general-purpose secrets management tool, WorkOS MCP is a hosted MCP server that integrates directly with the WorkOS dashboard. It focuses on role inheritance and confirmation workflows for agents rather than standalone secret storage.

What kind of environment does WorkOS MCP require to function?

WorkOS MCP is an extension of the WorkOS dashboard, so it requires an active WorkOS account and is designed for teams already using WorkOS for identity and access management. It does not operate independently of the WorkOS ecosystem.

Which teams benefit most from using WorkOS MCP?

Development teams that already rely on WorkOS for authentication and authorization benefit most, as the MCP server seamlessly inherits user roles and enforces security policies without additional configuration. It is ideal for teams seeking secure agent automation within their existing WorkOS setup.

How is WorkOS MCP priced?

WorkOS MCP is free to use with no paid plan required, making it accessible to any WorkOS user. There are no additional costs beyond the standard WorkOS account.

Can WorkOS MCP prevent accidental destructive operations?

Yes, WorkOS MCP requires confirmation for destructive operations, adding a safety layer before irreversible actions are executed. This helps prevent accidental data loss or configuration changes.

Does WorkOS MCP expose secrets in agent responses?

No, WorkOS MCP strips secrets from responses, ensuring that sensitive information is not leaked to agents. This protects credentials and other confidential data during automated workflows.

How does WorkOS MCP integrate with existing role-based access control?

Agents using WorkOS MCP inherit the exact role of the connected user, so existing role-based permissions are automatically applied to agent actions. This eliminates the need to manage separate permissions for automated processes.
