Ecommerce is the lowest-scoring large category in this research wave, and one product explains most of the drag. Toolradar tracks 336 ecommerce tools holding 210,074 aggregated third-party reviews. The unweighted average is 4.28 out of 5. The review-weighted average falls to 3.94. PayPal alone holds 66,452 reviews at 3.30. Shopify holds 11,858 reviews at 4.50. Fera, a reviews app, sits at 4.90 from 8,017 reviews. The checkout default is not the store default, and neither is the app that store owners rate highest.

Every figure below is computed from the Toolradar directory on September 17, 2026. The live dashboard is ecommerce statistics. The buyer ranking is best ecommerce software.

How large the ecommerce category is

We track 336 published tools, or 3.2% of the 10,619 tools in the directory. 90% (304 of 336) were added to Toolradar in 2026. "Ecommerce" here is the store stack, not only the storefront: payments, shipping trackers, review widgets, page builders, inventory. That is why PayPal and AfterShip sit in the same category as Shopify. They are what a live store actually runs.

304 new records in one year does not mean 304 new companies. It means the directory caught up with a long tail of Shopify apps and adjacent tools. The concentration at the top is still the useful fact: a handful of names hold most of the reviews.

How ecommerce tools are priced

41% of the 336 tools offer a free tier or freemium plan (137 tools). 59% are paid-only. App stores trained this market to give you a free install and charge when the store sells.

For the 77 tools that publish a paid tier, the median entry price is $33 a month and the mean is $112. The mean is more than three times the median. A few enterprise commerce suites sit on top of a long list of $20 to $40 apps. Neither number is the real bill. A live store stacks a theme, a reviews app, a tracker, and a page builder. Add those medians together before you compare them to a single platform price.

The catalog-wide median entry is $20 (software pricing statistics). Ecommerce's median is higher, and the stacked-app bill is higher still.

How ecommerce tools are rated

253 of 336 tools carry a rating (75%). Unweighted mean 4.28. Weighted mean 3.94.

PayPal has more reviews than the next four names combined and scores a point below Shopify. Payments collect every kind of seller, including people who never chose an alternative. Shopify collects people who picked a storefront. Fera at 4.90 from 8,017 reviews is the other end of the same pattern: a single-job app rated by the merchants who installed it on purpose.

Fera leads at 4.90. Read that list as app satisfaction, not as a storefront ranking. A 4.90 reviews widget is not a Shopify replacement.

Three tools worth comparing for a live store are Shopify, AfterShip, and GemPages. The full ranked set is on our best ecommerce software page.

What the largest storefront is printing

Shopify's own Q4 and full-year 2025 print is the demand-side companion to those ratings. For the quarter ended December 31, 2025, Shopify reported 31% revenue growth and a 19% free cash flow margin, the tenth consecutive quarter of double-digit free cash flow margins (Shopify). That is not a market-share claim. It is evidence the default storefront is still compounding while the review table says merchants like the platform more than they like the default checkout next to it.

How often ecommerce pricing moves

Our pricing tracker logged 13 pricing changes for these tools in 2026, 0 of them applied. App-store prices move in small increments. Platform prices move when a payments or checkout add-on lands. Recheck the stack, not one line item.

How this data was measured

Every figure in this report is computed live from the Toolradar directory on September 17, 2026, covering the 336 published tools we categorize under E-commerce. Pricing model is read from each vendor's official pricing page. The entry price is the cheapest positive monthly tier a tool publishes. Ratings and review counts are aggregated from third-party platforms (G2, Capterra, Trustpilot and others), not from Toolradar's own reviews. The leaderboard floor is 300 aggregated reviews. External statistics are cited inline and link to the exact source page. This is a directory snapshot, not a survey.
