What is Xero MCP?

Editorial review
Xero MCP is the official Model Context Protocol server for Xero, the cloud accounting platform used mainly by small and mid-sized businesses and their advisors. It exposes a connected Xero organization's ledger to an agent: contacts and their balances, sales invoices and bills, quotes and credit notes, the chart of accounts, bank transactions and payments, tracked items, and tax rates. It is not read-only. The agent can create and update contacts, raise invoices, record payments, and issue credit notes, which is what makes it useful for the repetitive end of bookkeeping: turning a batch of agreed line items into draft invoices, chasing which customers sit past due, or coding bank transactions to the right accounts. Standard reports such as profit and loss, trial balance, and aged receivables and payables are available too, so an agent can answer position questions without rebuilding the numbers itself. Payroll data, including employees, timesheets, and leave, is reachable in the regions where Xero offers it. Connection runs through Xero's OAuth flow against a specific tenant, so the agent operates on one organization at a time with the scopes that were granted. Users are typically bookkeepers, accountants running several client files, and finance leads at small companies who want an assistant that can both answer questions about the books and prepare drafts a human then approves.

Is Xero MCP worth the price?

78/100

Xero MCP's pricing is fair for small businesses needing structured accounting automation, with the Lite tier at $7/mo offering strong entry-level value and the Premium tier at $75/mo providing comprehensive tools for growing firms.

However, the lack of a free trial or free tier makes it less accessible for casual users, and the Starter tier at $29/mo feels expensive relative to its limited 20-invoice cap. Best for solopreneurs and small teams who want a scalable, all-in-one accounting solution without per-seat complexity.
